Evelyn Jean Walsh née (Carlisle) passed away peacefully at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York on December 6, 2014 at the age of 84. Evelyn is predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Thomas Edmund Walsh. She is survived by her five children, Kathleen Koronowicz and husband Krystian, Thomas J. Walsh, Linda Boothby, Evelyn Dyer and Michael Walsh and wife Nancy. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kevin and Kierstin Koronowicz, Kelly and Kristy Walsh, Sean Boothby, Mikaela and Conor Dyer, Ryan and Colleen Walsh, and two great grandchildren.
Evelyn was born on August 8, 1930 in Croton-on-the-Hudson to Edward and Myrtle Carlisle. After graduating from Croton-on-the-Hudson High School in 1948, Evelyn worked for AT&T as customer service representative. After marrying Thomas a petroleum engineer on June 6, 1953, Evelyn lived an exciting life, living abroad in Caracas, Venezuela and Bogota, Colombia. Despite the challenges of living in a foreign country, Evelyn embraced raising her growing family in a foreign country while adapting to her new surroundings. Returning to the United States in 1961, Evelyn remained a devoted mother to her five children. Evelyn’s children remember her as a kind, gentle, and charitable mother who encouraged and supported her children with her endearing love. Her support of many charitable causes was a role model to each. While all her children were in school, Evelyn returned to the business world in 1972, working for Provident Savings Bank and later for New York Bell as a Customer Representative. Working full-time and raising her children, Evelyn continued to pursue her many hobbies including travel, gourmet cooking, bowling, ceramics, and gardening. While working full time and supporting her children she continued her education which resulted in her obtaining a degree in business from St Thomas Aquinas. She made life-time friends while spending summers at West Nyack Swim Club, the Red Hat Society, and as an active member of St. Augustine’s Church. Evelyn pursued every aspect of her life with great passion which was particularly evident in the support of her family.
Family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc, New City. Mass of Christian burial will take place Thursday 10am at St. Augustine Church. Interment will follow at Fred Loescher Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice. Our family would like to give heartfelt thanks the staff of Westchester Medical Center for their care and compassion to Evelyn, our angel.
