Eileen Moloney

Eileen Moloney passed away on August 8, 2017. She was 83. Eileen was born on June 5, 1934 to Edna and William Moloney in the Bronx, NY. She is predeceased by her triplet siblings, Joan Dillon, Clare Moloney, and Bill Moloney. She is also predeceased by her best friend, Marianne McInerney. She is survived by her younger brother, Kevin Moloney, who lives with his wife Patti in Bayside, Queens, and her brother-in-law, John Dillon (retired Captain, NYPD), who lives in Pearl River, New York. Eileen’s nieces and nephew, Kerry Cassetti, John Dillon, Eileen McMaster, Noreen Moloney, Anne Marie Romeo, Tara Moloney, and Meghan Moloney were loved, nurtured, and guided by her. The McInerney family from the Jersey Shore, whom she loved as family, Ellen Barnette, Jack McInerney, Nancy Kelly, Cathy Guthrie, Mary Jo Gazzola, Tom McInerney, Joan Bassi, Peter McInerney, Bart McInerney, Jim McInerney, and Tim McInerney, will miss Eileen greatly as a friend and “Aunt.” She will also be dearly missed by her great-nieces and nephews in the Dillon, Moloney and McInerney families.

Eileen was a devout Catholic, a loving and engaged family member and friend, a committed teacher and champion of others, and an exceptional basketball player and coach. These passions and traits were important parts of each chapter of her life.

Eileen joined the Convent as a member of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1958. She became a teacher and started the girls’ basketball program at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, New York. She cherished her time at Albertus Magnus and stayed in close contact with students she taught and coached throughout her life. She coached the 1968 – 1969 basketball team to the division championship. In 2007, the Albertus Magnus Hall of Fame inducted Eileen and the members of her team as a Team of Distinction.

Eileen continued her devotion to teaching math and coaching basketball. She was a longtime faculty member at Our Lady of Victory High School in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Later, she earned a master's degree in school counseling. Eileen then worked as a guidance counselor at Kennedy High School in Somers, New York from 1987 until her retirement in 1996.

After retirement, Eileen moved to Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, where she continued to be an active member of her community. She was a member of the Renew Committee for St. Denis Church in Manasquan. She continued her counseling career as a volunteer counselor for at-risk adolescents at the Beacon House in Neptune, NJ, and as a crisis team member for Spring Lake Heights Elementary School. Eileen also continued her love for teaching and basketball by teaching math part-time at Holy Innocents School in Neptune and coaching basketball for Spring Lake Heights and Sea Girt recreation leagues.

Eileen will be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends, as well as her generosity, warmth, and great sense of humor. Eileen was also an avid Mets fan. Family and friends may visit at the Michael Higgins Funeral Home in New City, 321 So. Main Street, New City, NY, on Friday, August 11th from 2-4 and 7-9 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY, on Saturday August 12th at 10 am.
