Edna R. Garvey of New City peacefully passed away on April 2, 2012 at Villa Claire Marie with her family at her side. She was 86. Edna was born on Dec. 14, 1925 in New York City to John and Viola Mihelic. She married Thomas Garvey in 1951 and they enjoyed 56 happy years together until Tom’s passing in 2007. Together they raised three children in New City. Edna started her professional life on Wall Street but her impeccable sense of style led her to a career in fashion as an assistant buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. After marrying, Edna became a homemaker and was completely devoted to her family. After her children had grown, Edna returned to work at Jawonio, a community resource for children and adults with disabilities and special needs. Edna was one of the founding members of the Clarkstown Garden Club and was involved in the preservation of land in Rockland County. Edna was an avid collector of antiques and also became an antique’s dealer under the name Little Women Antiques. Edna will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her son Michael (Cathy) in Vermont, and her daughter Gael (Ray) in New City. Also surviving are her adoring grandchildren, Sean, Casey, and Greta Garvey, and Brendan, Catie and Colin Barile. Her first-born son Tommy and her husband Tom predecease her. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Monday, April 9 at 10:00am at St. Augustine’s Church, Main Street, New City with burial to follow.
