Dennis Riordan passed away on October 10, 2011 with his loving family by his side. He was 72 years old. Dennis was born on June 27, 1939 in Co. Kerry, Ireland. He was the oldest of six children. Dennis immigrated to the states in 1958. He retired from Mabstoa in 1989 after 25 years of service. He was currently employed by the Clarkstown Mini Trans. Dennis was an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 428 and served as an usher at St. Augustine's Church.
He is predeceased by an infant daughter, Bridget, an infant son, Thomas, an infant granddaughter, Erin, his parents, Thomas and Ellen, and two brothers, Patrick and Thomas. Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Helena, of 50 years, and their six children and 18 grandchildren: Eileen and Paul Thiesing of Salisbury Mills and their children, Sean and Paul; Frank Riordan of Massachusetts and his children, Delia, Frankie, Olivia and Julia and their mother Heidi of Massachusetts; Dennis and Christine Riordan of New City and their children Maggie, Dennis, Caroline and Claire; Siobhain and Frank Tucek of New City and their children, Franky, Kayla and Jack; Deirdre and Chris Carney of West Nyack and their children, Meaghan, Kelleigh and Katie; Colleen and Matt Wiedemann of Connecticut and their children, Luke and Keri; his brother, Jerry and wife Ann of Pearl River, his 2 sisters, Maureen and Josephine in Ireland and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dennis was scrupulously honest, hardworking and kind, an exemplary husband, family man and nurturing grandfather. His compassion and unimaginable strength and strong faith taught and inspired his family. He enjoyed many vacations with them. Dennis had a passion for music and dancing with his wife, Helena, and playing cards with his friends at the Irish Cultural Center in Blauvelt.
Family may receive friends on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10:30am at St. Augustine's Church in New City followed by interment at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Donations can be made in his memory to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
