It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Deborah J. Lee (Debbie) of Pomona,New York on March 21, 2025. A Rockland County native, she was the beloved daughter of S. Harold Lee and Marion Hopper Lee. She was born at Nyack Hospital, and was raised in New City, N.Y.
Debbie graduated from Clarkstown High School where she excelled in sports. She received a BA from West Virginia Wesleyan University, majoring in psychology. She did her graduate work at Fordham University ultimately receiving a Master’s in Social Work (MSW). Debbie loved social work, She understood the need of kindness and mental care for suffering children, adolescents and their families. Her commitment to craft began as group home leader for St. Agatha’s Home for Children. She then spent over 30 years working for Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY as a Psychiatric Social Worker. She retired this March, only because of the onset of an unexpected, but deadly illness.
Debbie cared deeply for all of her co-workers, supervisors, and friends who also shared her passion. We, her family, are sure she will be missed. A woman of many interests, she had a love for sailing, beaches, animals, sporting events, sunny vacations, and perhaps being a lucky lady at casino. She loved her cherished friends from the VanBramer and Sainvil families who especially stood with and supported her throughout her illness.
Beloved by her family, Debbie is survived by her sister Linda Lee Stein (Mark) of Avon, CT. She is fondly remembered by her nephew, Jonathan Stein (Gillian) and her niece, Cynthia Krozser (John), and 3 great nephews, Daniel and Steven Stein and Jacob Krozser.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 29th at Higgins Funeral Home on South Main Street, New City, NY. Visitation begins at 9:30 am. Prayers and memories at 11:00. Burial immediately following the service, at Mt. Repose Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
