David passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 1, 2021 at the age of 75. He was born on February 17, 1946 to Lena (Goerhing) and Otto Wedlick. David was raised in Pine Bush, NY. David became a Police Officer with Clarkstown Police Department in 1966 and after 3 years he was promoted to Detective. He retired in 1991 after 25 years. During this career span, he completed his bachelor and master degrees in Criminal Justice. David was also the Rockland County Police Academy Director for many years. Upon retirement, David became a Criminal Justice professor in 1992 and taught at Westchester Community College. He also received his Doctorate degree in Executive Leadership in 2013. David was also involved in many other organizations. Rockland County PBA, Rockland County Shields, Haverstraw Elks, NYS Hunter Ed Instructor, NJ Hunter Ed Instructor, and Trout Unlimited to name a few. David especially enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son. David also had a deep affection and was a magnet to all pets.
David is survived by his wife Susan Carey. He is also survived by his son Michael and wife, Melanie. David adored his grandchildren Marina and Mariella. He is also predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Barbara May Wedlick.
Please join the family at Higgins Funeral Home on 321 South Main Street in New City, NY. Visiting hours will be from 3pm to 7pm on Sunday April 11th. A service will be held at Higgins at 1030am on Monday the 12th followed by the burial at Germonds Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
