David was born on April 18, 1935 to the late David and Dorothy Reilly in Yonkers, New York. His sister, Rita Reilly Schloth also predeceased him. He was a 1957 graduate of Fordham University, where he was the captain of the University swim team. Throughout his younger years he served as a lifeguard at Breezy Point Beach and his love of swimming and the water lasted a lifetime. He was married to the love of his life Joan (Hourihan) Reilly for 42 years prior to her death in 2000. Together, they raised 6 children and their New City home was known as a gathering place for their children, relatives and friends. David worked as a stockbroker until his retirement from R. F. Lafferty in 2016. David never sat still. If he wasn’t repairing something in the house, he could be found in the supermarkets grocery shopping for his family. He was an active member of St. Augustine’s Church in New City. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Reilly, Joan Vetter (Stephen), David Reilly (Lisa), Tim Reilly (Rose), James Reilly (Mary), Matthew Reilly (Chris), 16 loving grandchildren and his devoted friend, Mary Mullane.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28, 2019 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, 321 S. Main St., New City, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, 114 South Main Street, New City, NY 10956, followed by interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake, NY.
