Our Colin Joseph O’Connor, 33, of Nanuet, NY passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2021. Born on September 18, 1987 in NYC. Colin is survived by his parents Thomas & Susan, sister Emily (Mike), brothers Danny (Tiffany), Brian & Michael. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Helen O’Connor and his maternal grandmother Kathleen Haggerty. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Thomas O’Connor Sr. and Jeremiah Haggerty.
Colin graduated from Clarkstown South High School in 2005, where he was a member of the Vikings varsity football & track teams. He attended Binghamton University and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Early on, Colin developed a love of mathematics and enjoyed sharing his passion to tutor his younger cousins. For anyone who shared a conversation with Colin, you always walked away a little smarter afterwards.
He spent the summer of 2008 in Ecuador volunteering to build a playground for a community in need. Colin was known for his quick wit and an infectious laugh for those who shared his company. He was a loyal NY Yankees and Giants fan. He also enjoyed long hikes on the many Rockland trails. He was a master of trivia games, loved listening to music especially the Red Hot Chili Peppers and was a voracious reader. Colin remains undefeated amongst his siblings in all categories from athletics to video games. He loved his family above all else.
Friends and family can join us at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Friday, July 9th from 3:00 to 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 10th at 10:30 am at St. Augustine’s Church in New City, NY followed by interment at Gethsemane in Congers, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Colin’s memory to the Mental Health Association of Rockland County or NAMI Rockland.
