Charles W. Furey died on August 21, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was born on December 2, 1928 to William and Grace (McClintock) Furey. He was a member of the New York City Police Department, 47th PCT, from February 1955 to December 1978. He worked for McGraw Hill Publishing Company in Security from 1978 to 1991. He also played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants minor leagues in 1947-1949. Charlie was a member of the New York City Emerald Society and Rockland County Shields.
Charlie married Mary Kilkenny August 26, 1950 at St. Francis deSales, New York City. They would have been married 62 years on Sunday. He is survived by his children Ann Lent (Dave), Debi Peddy (Charly), William Furey (Carol), Catherine McMahon (Brian), Kevin Furey (LeeAnn), James Furey (Maureen). He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Maureen DeNardo, Kristine Suarez, Jennifer Lent, Timothy, Matthew and Kimo Peddy, Kerry Stancarcone, Patrick Furey, Theresa McMahon, Kevin Furey, Thomas and Christopher Furey. He also had 4 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Justin DeNardo and Brandon and Kylin Suarez. He is also survived by his brother-in-law John (Elayne) Kilkenny and sister-in-law Louise Kilkenny.
The Mass of Christian Burial is at Saturday, 10 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, New City. Burial is at St. Anthony’s, Nanuet on Saturday. Visiting is at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, NY, Thursday 7-9 p.m., Friday 2-4 p.m., 7-9p.m. Memorial donations are being requested to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, New York 10956.
