Barney McCabe, 86, of Congers, NY passed away on Friday, October 20, 2017. Barney is survived by his loving wife Susan (nee Egan) and were married 56 years and had 7 children together: Joseph and wife Cathy, Kevin and wife Eileen, Brian and wife Eileen, Frank, John, Susan and husband Doug, Matthew and wife Eve; and 15 grandchildren (Steven, Maureen, Samantha, Liam, Cameron, Aidan, John, Laura, Kevin, Peter, Shannon, Michael, Brenna, Matthew, Amanda).
Barney was born in Ireland on September 21, 1931 and grew up on a farm in Edwartstown, Co. Longford. Barney’s late parents, Felix and Anne (nee Mulligan), had 10 children. Barney is predeceased by his twin brother, Matthew, and survived by his siblings Joseph, Kathleen, Ita, James, Anna, Albert, Josie, and Olive.
Barney emigrated to America in 1956 and lived in an apartment in Sunnyside, Queens. Barney and Susan bought their first home in Orangeburg, NY in 1965 and later moved to Congers NY in 1990.
Barney worked as a pressman for the New York Times for 51 years before retiring in 2007. Barney had also volunteered for the Orangeburg Ambulance Corp. for many years. Barney loved working and helping his many friends and family with any projects, large or small. Barney and wife Susan were very involved in the community and went to church every day at Saint Paul’s in Congers.
Barney’s wake will be held at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Monday, October 23 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. The funeral mass will be held at Saint Paul’s Church in Congers, NY on Tuesday, October 24 at 10:00 A.M.
