With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Latorre, a loving and devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend to all the lives she touched. Barbara, 82, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2021 at her home surrounded by love ones.
Barbara was born in the Bronx, New York to Michael and Elvira Cupiola. She married her longtime friend and love, Nunzio (Buddy) Latorre, in August of 1953 who preceded her in death in 2009. Barbara and Buddy moved to the country to raise their family and New City became their forever home. They were active members of their community and formed enduring friendships.
After dedicating her life to raising her family, she pursued her passion for teaching and helping special needs children at Camp Jawanio, A Starting Place and Rockland BOCES. She worked with scores of children and her devotion to her work suited her servant heart. She resumed her education, earning a degree in Occupational Therapy. After 15 years of service and dedication, she eased into retirement traveling the world and enjoying time with her husband, family and friends.
Barbara lived a full and wonderful life, caring deeply for her family and friends. She loved to tend to her gardens, was committed to her faith and an active member of her church and community. She loved music and became an accomplished guitarist, playing for her parish with her dear friends and offered weekly guitar lessons to many of the neighborhood children.
Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in them a strong faith and values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and remembered for her kind and generous heart.
Barbara is survived by her loving children Lyn Neyen of Rockhill, NY; John Latorre of New City, NY and James Latorre (Karen) of Ridgefield, CT; brother Richard (Ginger) of Bronx, NY; sister Rosemary Allen of Hillburn, NY. A proud grandmother to Julia (Jake), Joe (Erica), Grace, Michael, Jenna, Rose, Ben, Hannah and Gianni. She was a beloved aunt, teacher and friend to many.
