Anthony Paul Buonanno Sr. died peacefully in Richland, Pennsylvania on January 7, 2018 at the age of 85. Born in New York City, and was raised on Mulberry St. He graduated in 1956 from St John’s University with a degree in Pharmacy. In 1957 he married Roberta Licata from Brooklyn and together they had four beautiful children.
For over 25 years, he owned and operated Goodyear Community Clinical Pharmacy, where he gained many friends and admirers. It would become a legendary trademark of his wit, generosity and humor. He provided many services during his heyday as a pharmacist, which were beyond the call of duty. He was a great patriot, and served as a medic in the army.
As a first generation American, he was passionate about American history and its constitutional values. It appealed to his love of liberty and independent thinking. “Give me liberty, or give me death,” was a quotation he often referenced, and certainly lived by. This passion fueled his and his family’s many trips to the Revolutionary and Civil War battlefields and historic sites across the country.
Serving as a volunteer at The Friends of the Delaware Canal, he could frequently be found there taking walks, and reading a book. Though a man of few words, he possessed a poetic soul and would often find his words in the scripts of the great poets such as: Robert Frost and Walt Whitman. It could be said that he took the road less travelled and made a difference to his family, whom he loved greatly.
The last surviving child of Antimo (Thomas) and Annunziata (Sue) Buonanno, he was a brother to Connie Sansone and Thomas Buonanno. He was a beloved father to Thomas, Catherine, Mark, and Anthony Jr.; daughter- in law’s Teresa and Nobuko, and son- in- law Steven. Leaving a legacy behind, he was a Pop Pop B to ten grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, Kristin, Anastas, Erica, Julius, Julia, Olivia, Andrew, and Sophia. He was dear to nieces and nephews, and well respected in the community he served.
