Zofia Nowak, 87, of New Britain passed away at Hospital of Central Connecticut on November 19, 2014 with her beloved family by her side.She was born in Poland to the late Julianna and Antoni Chodacz. She immigrated to the USA in 1985 and lived in Newington and for the past 12 years in New Britain. She was the predeceased by her first husband, Jan Kolakowski who died in 1971 and second husband John Nowak in 1997. Her life was infiltrated with more tragedies than joy; she lost her husband at an early age and brought up four children to adulthood alone. She lost three brothers during WWII to the Nazi Army, than lost a lovely daughter who was vacationing in the USA in 2000. She was a happy warm person, ready to help everyone, always polite and with class. Everyone who knew her cannot say anything negative about her. She enjoyed every free moment with her grandchildren and her children. She was a great cook, gardener, in spare time like to read and do crosswords. She was a proud mother of her four devoted children, Janusz Kolakowski and his wife, Teresa of Farmington; Lucyna Kolakowska with whom she made her home and Przemyslaw Kolakowski and his wife, Krystyna of Newington. She was predeceased by her oldest daughter Krystyna in 2000 whom she mourned the rest of her life. She is also survived by five beloved grandchildren who where her pride and joy, Marek, and Pawl with families; Mateuszek, Piotrus and Paulinka and two precious great grandchildren, Karolinka and Adas. She leaves a sister, Anna Kordek; a son in law, Rafal and many nieces, nephews and family in Poland. Zofia’s family would like to thank her doctors and medical staff in HCC on C5 and ICU for the extraordinary care they gave her. Also, her family would like to thank her caregivers, Maria and Sophie who were very present to the last hours of her life; she leaves a very special companion, her lovely dog, Blackey who have her lots of love and joy during the last months of her life.Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain followed by her funeral liturgy at 10:00 AM in Holy Cross Church. Burial will conclude in Sacred Heart Cemetery, all in New Britain.
