Samuel Carbone Sr, formerly of New Britain & Cromwell, husband of the late Mary (Bernardi) Carbone, passed away November 28, 2021, surrounded by his family. Born in 1924 in Hollesopple, PA to Carmelo & Anna (Burgio) Carbone, Sam served in WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate & Naval Tail Gunner in the U.S. Navy with Combat Air Crew Number 124. In 2008, he received an award for his service from the Secretary of the State of CT. He married the love of his life, Mary, in 1947 and settled in New Britain where he worked as a tool & die maker, retiring from Delto Tool, after 37 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Church in New Britain. Sam was a life long Red Sox fan, accomplished bowler, gardener, horseshoe, setback & boccee player. He could be found many weekends at a racetrack, taking in a car race with his children or manning the grill at a family picnic. He had a love for life, nature & sports. Sam accomplished many things in his 97 years, but nothing gave him more pride than raising his family. He is survived by two sons: Samuel Carbone, Jr. of Florida, and Gary Carbone & his wife Carol of New Britain; daughter Linda Dezenzo & her husband Tom of Burlington; granddaughter Krystina Carbone of New Britain; sister Rose Banasik of New Britain; two sister-in-law's Helene Carbone of New Britain & Mary Ann Bernardi of Avon; as well as many nieces & nephews. The oldest of 8 siblings: he was pre-deceased by two brothers: Paul Carbone & Carmelo Carbone Jr., and four sisters: Mary Ann Gyzl, Pauline Dugo, Lucy Carbone & Lucy Carbone; as well as his son Richard Carbone and grandson Brian Wilson, Jr. The Carbone family would like to thank the staff at Touchpoint of Farmington for all the love and support to Sam and the family over the last few years. Sam touched the lives of so many and will be missed by all. A period of visitation will be held at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 3-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at St. Ann’s Church, North St, New Britain at 10:30am. A brief period of visitation will be held prior from 9-10am at the funeral home. Interment services will be held immediately following the Mass at St. Mary Cemetery, Stanley St, New Britain. The Carbone requests all friends and family wear masks and maintain proper social distance during the visitation and Mass.
