Salvatore Calafiore, 85, of Berlin, formerly of New Britain, Connecticut, died October 28, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria (Gozzo) Calafiore. Born on June 16, 1925, in Solarino, Sicily, he was the eldest of three. The son of Paul and Carmela ( Santa ) Calafiore.
He moved to the United States in 1945. He was employed at Stanley Works in New Britain, Connecticut for 43 years, retiring in 1990 becoming an avid investor along the way. As a leader in the hardware department, he was well respected and admired by his co-workers and peers. He was a member of the Generale Ameglio and a member of St. Pauls Church. He was always ready to help both friends and family, going above and beyond whatever was asked of him.
He is survived by his three daughters, Sandra Close, and her husband William Close of Cheshire, Carmela Calafiore, Berlin, and Paula Calafiore of Berlin and one son Paul and his wife, Ellen Calafiore of Berlin Two sisters Maria Calafiore and her husband Nuzio of Bristol and Carmelina Bordonaro of Plainville. Six grandchildren, David Calafiore, Kellie and her husband Dan Kennedy and Michelle Molnar, Briana, Rebecca, and Paul Calafiore. A dedicated father, brother, and friend, he will be missed. Sal will always be remembered for his remarkable ability to make people laugh with his stories.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 2 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain. Directions: exit 37 off I-84 East or West – right off exit -- 1 ½ miles on right. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, November 3rd at 9:00 AM at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10AM at St. Paul Church, Kensington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
