Peter Adamowich, 93, passed away peacefully on October 12th with his children by his side. Peter was part of the greatest generation and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Born in Terryville, Connecticut on September 2, 1925 he attended trade school before joining the US Navy. He was proud to serve in WWII as a Gunners Mate Third Class on the destroyer escort USS Varian and the USS Fowler. Returning to Connecticut after the war, Peter married Anne Grecki and worked until his retirement from Bristol Brass in 1984. Because of his tireless work ethic, he re-entered the workforce to stay active.
Peter and Anne raised their family on Broad Street in New Britain and was well known as a friend to all. Beginning in 1953, Peter and Anne began vacationing at Grove Beach Point in Westbrook. They enjoyed the beach area so much that together, and with their own hands, they built the home of their dreams in 1961 which remains in the family to this day. Peter was an avid boater and fisherman as well as a Polka aficionado. He was a simple man whose greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends or playing his clarinet.
For the past five years Peter grew fond of his fellow residents and the staff at Village Gate in Farmington especially his dear friend Patty Cromack.
He was a loving husband to his wife of 62 years Anne (Grecki) who predeceased him in October 2015. He loved his children: his son Peter Jr. (and his wife Kelly); his son Paul who predeceased him in 2017; and his daughter Rose Anne. Peter adored his only grand daughter Sarah and always cherished their time together.
Peter’s family included his Godchildren Maria Ierardi and Stephen Adamowich along with many extended family members.
Calling hours for Peter will be held at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave. in New Britain, on Thursday October 18, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Monsignor Daniel Plorcharczyk in Sacred Heart Church at 9:30 on October 19th followed by internment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to the Sarah Adamowich Education Fund at TD Bank, 1133 Main Street, Newington, Connecticut for the education of Peter’s beloved granddaughter Sarah.
