

Mary “GiGi” Sargis, born Vincenza Maria Aparo, passed away at the age of 92 on the morning of Saturday, August 20th, 2016 in Plainville, Connecticut, where she resided for over 60 years with her beloved husband Andrew “Andy” Sargis (deceased). Mary was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Paolo Aparo and Maria Fazzina, originally from Sicily [Syracuse], Italy. Mary raised her family in New Britain, Connecticut and is survived by daughter, Rosemarie Rival, and Son-In-Law, Walter Rival, and son, Joseph Zoccoli, and Daughter-In-Law, Toni Zoccoli.
Mary was the proud Grandmother of 5 grandchildren (Michael Zoccoli, predeceased, Joseph Zoccoli Jr., Debra Rival Perazzella, Walter Rival and Christina Rival Robbins) and 6 great-grandchildren (Salvatore and Adrianna Zoccoli, Rachel Rival, James and Ryan Perazzella and Livia Robbins). Mary is predeceased by five sibilings: Josephine Baruffi (husband Albert), Gloria Daverio, Henry Daverio, Thomas Aparo and Paul Aparo.
Mary was a professional seamstress for over 40 years at American Bazzar in New Britain, CT, and found joy in cooking for her family and teaching her family how to cook and bake. They spent countless, happy hours in the kitchen... She was famous for her homemade braciola, meatballs, sauce, pot-roast and rice pilaf. She enjoyed many Sunday family dinners, caring for her grandchildren, and hand-made many clothes and coats for her family over the years. Mary lived a passionate life filled with the love and joy of family.
A time of visitation will be begin Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 from 9:00-10:00am at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, followed by her funeral liturgy at 11AM at St. Ann Catholic Church, 47 Clark St. New Britain.
