Born on September 17 1927, in Solarino, Sicily, she was the second of six children. The daughter of the late Mauro and Carmela (Auteri) Gozzo. She moved to the United States in 1949. She was employed at Emhart in New Britain, Connecticut for 28 years, retiring in 1990.
She loved to cook for her family and was famous for her pasta dishes. She was always ready to cook for both friends and family, going above and beyond whatever was asked of her.
She is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Close, and her husband William Close of Cheshire, Carmela Calafiore, Berlin, Paula Calafiore of Berlin and son Paul Calafiore of Berlin, Two sisters Concetta Campisi and her husband Simone of Berlin and Salvatrice Calafiore of Solarino Italy and brother Salvatore Gozzo his wife Sandra. Nonna will be deeply missed by her six grandchildren, David Calafiore, Kellie and her husband Dan Kennedy, Michelle Molnar, Briana, Rebecca, and Paul Calafiore Jr. and great grandchildren Leo Calafiore, Grace and Maeve Kennedy. A dedicated wife, mother, sister, and friend, she will be missed.
Calling hours will be Thursday, November 13 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain. Directions: exit 37 off I-84 East or West – right off exit -- 1 ½ miles on right. Funeral services will be on Friday, November 14th at 10:30 AM at the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, followed by the funeral liturgy at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Church, Kensington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
