Leokadia Zdanio, aged 96, passed away peacefully at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, CT, on April 17, 2024. She was born on June 20, 1927 in Poland, to the late Aleksander and Jadwiga Rydzewska Moscinski. After briefly living in New Jersey, she had settled in New Britain for over 30 years. Leokadia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marian Zdanio, and her sisters, Sophie Moscinski and Waclawa Reglewski, as well as her brother Kazimierz Moscinski.
Leokadia was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and attended many Ladies Guild activities when she was healthy enough to do so, their mission being to promote religious, civic, social and educational activities in the parish and to foster friendship and unity among members. She also belonged to Polish Falcon’s Nest 88 located in New Britain, whose mission is to promote and maintain the Polish heritage through social, cultural, educational and physical activities, and to provide various financial benefits to its members.
Throughout her life, Leokadia faced many hardships, including the loss of her sister/best friend and husband 20 years prior and living in Poland through WWII, but she never let these tragedies break her spirit. Instead, she drew strength from them and used them as motivation to live her life to the fullest. She was a remarkable woman who embodied the value of hard work, working many years at Stanley Black & Decker as well as Emhart manufacturing company in Berlin, CT until retirement. She started working at a young age and dedicated herself to supporting her family, remaining a constant presence in her grandchildren’s childhood. Despite the many challenges she faced, she remained positive and optimistic, with a great sense of humor and an unwavering commitment to helping others. Her passion of gardening and flowers was evident to all who were lucky to have had her in their lives.
Leokadia is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Szczubelek of New Britain, CT, and grandchildren, Agatha Giliberto and husband Jack Giliberto of Kensington, CT, and Patrick Szczubelek of New Britain, CT as well as her cherished great grand-son Maverick Giliberto, who was able to spend his first two years of life creating memories with his great grandmother. She also was close to many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, etc. she leaves behind in Poland, IL, FL, NJ.
The family of Leokadia would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Monsignor Bojanowski Manor, where she spent the last year of her life, as well as all the kind staff of the Hospital of Central Connecticut-especially unit C5 as well as the HHC hospice team.
