Joseph and Rose Taricani

Rose M. (Valente) Taricani, 88 and Joseph R. Taricani, 90 of New Britain left us on February 1st and February 2nd, hours apart, after a short illness. Both were lifelong residents of New Britain and shared their lives together for 67 years.

Rose graduated from New Britain High School in 1950 She worked in the billing department of Associated Transport from 1954-1972 and then for Connecticut Fast Freight until 1978. She then began working at CCSU in the cashiers’ office, retiring in 1991. She was active in the NBHS reunion committee for many years. She was known as an outgoing person, genuine, loving, caring, and an instant friend to all she met. Rose’s constant companion and “sister”, Dottie Vesci, could often be found going to Mohegan Sun, playing cards, shopping and getting their hair done together.

Joe started high school at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield before transferring to New Britain High School, graduating in 1948 He worked at Stanley Works as a foreman for a number of years while also serving in the Connecticut Army National Guard. He served on active duty during the Korean Conflict. He found his calling in the military and enjoyed a successful career for 35 years. He served in the 169th Infantry, 2nd Battalion for 19 years before being assigned to CT State Headquarters as Personnel Officer. His career progressed to full Colonel and retired in 1986 as a Brigadier General. After retiring, you could find Joe volunteering at New Britain General Hospital transporting patients to their appointments where he did this for 30 years.

He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, golfing and watching sports. Joe was known for his quick wit and for always being right.

Rose and Joe were faithful parishioners of St. Ann’s Church in New Britain, avid sports fans, especially UCONN men and women’s basketball. You could always find them in the crowd at their children or grandchildren’s sporting events cheering and supporting them. Hot or cold, indoors or outside, home or away, they were there.

They enjoyed traveling and cruising, visiting their money (as they liked to say) in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and our local casinos. Aruba was their favorite destination, going there 2-3 weeks every year for over 36 years.

Joe was born to John and Mary (Cote) Taricani and predeceased by bothers Dominic Taricani, Roland Taricani; Ralph and Nancy (Taricani) Ingenito, Anthony and Marie (Taricani) Raia and survived by Joseph and Julia (Taricani) Ingenito.

Rose was born to Luciano and Grace (Giudice) Valente and predeceased by her brother George Valente and his wife Alice.

Rose and Joe leave their memories and watchful eyes over their sons Michael and his wife Laura of Southington; Mark of Encino, CA and his special partner Robin Troglauer; Matthew of Milford and his significant other Nicole Korzun.

Their grandchildren Darren and Susan Taricani of Sudbury, MA; Stephen and Adria (Taricani) Boyle of Orange, Brandon and Robyn Taricani of Southington; Mark Taricani Jr. of Moorpark, CA; Joshua and Samantha (Taricani) Cudworth of Agoura Hills, CA; David and Jaime (Taricani) Armendariz of Simi Valley, CA; Logan Taricani of Norwalk and Madison Taricani of Guilford; 7 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
