John Zytka, 86, died peacefully at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain on Friday, February 19 after a short illness. Born in New Britain on October 24, 1929, he was a Southington resident for over 40 years. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary and his parents, Peter and Mary (Kowalchuk) Zytka. John is survived by his children Amy and Walter Henderson, of Berlin and Jason Zytka and Sara Leide-Zytka, of Burlington as well as his two grandchildren, Penelope and Jack Zytka of Burlington.
John retired from Hamilton Standard in 1995 as an instrumentation engineer. During his retirement, John was an avid gardener who took great pride in his fruits and vegetables. John also thoroughly enjoyed sweet treats, with an endless supply of snack cakes, much to the delight of his grandchildren. John led a quiet life, but loved being surrounded by his family. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his children, and in later years, his grandchildren and his canine companion, Anya.
Friends and loved ones may call on the family at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain, on Friday, February 26 at 10 a.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
