John M. (Jack) Tracy, Jr., 96, beloved husband of Mary (O’Brien) Tracy died following a brief illness on Friday, January 30, 2015 with his loving family by his side. A lifelong resident of New Britain, Connecticut, Jack was the son of John M. Tracy, Sr. and Mary Louise (Keeney) Tracy. Jack was a graduate of New Britain Senior High School and served in World War II with the Army Air Corps. He spent most of his working career in the food industry. Jack was a mechanical engineer without the degree. He could always figure out what was wrong and fix it. He was a kind soul and happy to help whenever he could. Jack was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. Jack will be missed and fondly remembered by his family and many friends especially the Westfarms Mall walkers. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his stepmother Gertrude (Callahan) Tracy, his two brothers William Tracy and Robert Tracy and his sister Marguerite Apodaca. Jack is survived by his wife Mary and two sons John M. Tracy III (Belle) of Glastonbury and James P. Tracy (Kristina) of Wethersfield; four grandchildren Kelli Hurlburt (Chuck) of Amherst, MA, Lori Steenkamp (Jack) of Natick, MA, Ryan Tracy of Framingham, MA, and Bridget Tracy of Jamaica Plain, MA; five great grandchildren Aaron, Ethan, Benjamin, Emily and Rachel; two step grandchildren Pamela Dion and John Dion (Cindy and daughter Tara) and a very special niece Maureen Anderson as well as many family members and friends. He will also be missed by his many in-laws but especially by his wonderful sister-in-law Margaret Meotti of Glastonbury. Jack’s family thanks the staff of the Glastonbury Health Care Center, especially Dorothy, for their kindness and assistance. Services are private. The New Britain Memorial/Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain is assisting the family. Donations may be made in Jack’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
