John Goyette, age 99, died on February 28, 2013 in New Britain, CT. John was born on June 30, 1913 in Fitchburg, MA to the late Phillippe and Florina (Chalifoux) Goyette. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Mae) Sasiela. John is survived by his nephew Daniel Robichaud of Cheshire, CT; niece Carol Goguen of Fort Meyers, FL; niece Delores Davango of Newington, CT; and nephew Henry Bernacki of Charlestown, RI. John also leaves many adoring grand nieces and nephews. John came to New Britain in 1927. As the Great Depression set in, he began making boxes at Stanley Works. Through hard work, he moved his way up to foreman. John held a number of patents including the Lubro-Brush. He retired after 45 years of service. John was not one to sit idle, so he spent the first 10 years of his retirement working at New Britain Memorial and Sagarino Funeral Home. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Stanley Foreman’s Club and Stanley Seniors Association. John was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He enjoyed cruises, bowling, golf and card games. Trips to the beach and casino with longtime companion Margaret Szymanski were the highlight of his later years. His biggest love of all was the music of the Big Band era. You could always count on a song from John. “Happy Days Are Here Again” and “Those Were The Days” were two of his favorites. Thank you to the Szymanski family and neighbors Stanley and Monica Antosek, for your unwavering friendship over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s name to a charity of choice.
