Predeceased by her husband, James M. Matulis, Joan is survived by her three daughters Gwendolyn Bouras of Unionville, Catherine Matulis of East Hartford and Christine Steward of Las Vegas; her adoring grand children Vasiliki Bouras, Laurelin Matulis, George Bouras, Sarah Matulis and Alexandria Bouras; her beautiful great-grandson Eoin Mc Geough; and her sister Elizabeth Uchalik. She was pre-deceased by her son James J. Matulis, and sister Mary Jane Descoteaux.
In her spare time Joan loved being in her backyard. Whether it was working on her flowerbeds, watching a deer or wid turkey go by, or feeding a stray cat or two, Joan loved her yard. She also enjoyed her time swimming at the Hospital for Special Care and taking leisurely walks with her dog Chi-Chi. Joan’s latest passion was Facebook. Keeping track of her grandchildren both near and far made her feel as though she was with them Not a day would go by without her updating her page or leaving comments on the pages of others.
Friends and family are welcome to join in a celebration of Joan’s life on Wednesday, August 3 at the New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home., 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain at 10 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of the giver’s choice, preferably one that comes to the aid of animals.
