On Sunday, November 29th, 2020 Gail P. Atkinson, loving wife to Russell J. Atkinson of New Britain, passed away peacefully at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Gail was born on June 15th, 1950 in Holyoke, MA to Albert A. and Phyllis E. (Clark) Peters. She attended school in Chicopee, MA and worked at numerous locations before moving to New Britain in 1988 to make a home with her husband Russell of 32 years. Gail is survived by her adoring husband, Russell J. Atkinson, her daughter, Kerry Peters and her husband Jose Raspaldo, her son, Peter Potyrala, her step-sons, Russell J. Atkinson Jr. and his wife Jeanette, Christopher P. Atkinson, as well as her brothers, Albert Peters and his wife Rose, Phil Peters and his girlfriend Donna, Raymond Peters and his wife Linda and sister Suzanne Brunelle and her husband Victor, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, special friends and wonderful neighbors. Gail had a passion for animals throughout her entire life and her love and care of their pets was her joy beyond measure. Gail and Russell volunteered their time and expense to assist in neutering many feral cats in their neighborhood over the years and even allowed some to become chosen in-house family members. Gail was lovingly known to her family and friends as "The Queen". She loved the title and crown dearly but was most proud of taking care of and doting over her beloved husband fondly named "King Russell". Her fun and loving spirit will be missed terribly by all whose lives she "sparkled". Funeral arrangements will be made by New Britain Memorial-Sagarino Funeral Home in New Britain. A burial will take place at The State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT on December 10th at 10am. If desired, a donation can be made to honor Gail's passion to the Connecticut Humane Society.
