Dorothy Jean (Libby) Dlugolenski, age 87, of New Britain, passed away after a short illness on September 11, 2014. Born in Meredith, New Hampshire on May 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Jasper N. Libby and Lydia Bartlett Libby Robinson. Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alexander A. Dlugolenski and her closest friend and cousin, Jesse “Brick” Piper. She is survived by her devoted stepsons, Alexander Dlugolenski and his wife Connie of Portland Ct, and Robert Dlugolenski and his wife Christy of Middlefield, CT. Her surviving grandchildren include Diana Dlugolenski (John Meegan), Laurie Dlugolenski(Robert) Gray, Mark (Jennifer) Dlugolenski, Deborah Dlugolenski(Stefan) McKosky, Robert P. Dlugolenski, Sarah Dlugolenski (Tyler) Greco, Eric R. Dlugolenski. Great-grandchildren include Jessica and Kayla McKosky, Trace Dlugolenski, Kiley Meegan, and Kaley Greco. She is also survived by her dear cousin, Marjorie Newcomb of New Hampshire, and several cousins in New Hampshire, New Jersey and Iowa.
Dorothy graduated from Laconia High School in New Hampshire prior to relocating to Connecticut in 1946. She worked for several companies and completed career with Egan Machine as secretary where her husband, Alex, was vice president. She retired from Egan Machine in Bristol in 1981 to care of her granddaughter, Sarah Dlugolenski.
Dorothy was active in the First Church of Christ Congregational of New Britain, singing for many years in the choir. She was an avid participant in the New Britain Chorale and performed many times in Sacred Heart Church. Her love of family, especially her grandchildren, was evident. A woman of many talents, she enjoyed reading, collecting poetry, and playing the piano and keyboard in addition to her love of singing. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Olivet Chapter, Bristol, CT.
She will be missed by her family and friends as she completed a life well lived.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Church of Christ Congregational Church, on 830 Corbin Ave. New Britain. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
