David was born on Novemnber 12, 1917 in Woodbridge, was son to the late Oscar and Harriet (Gage) Cornish and previously resided in Durham. He attended Durham High School, proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and the U.S.Air Force Reserves for 30 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Col. and had been employed by Fafnir Bearing as an engineer, retiring in 1980. David was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and past member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his beloved wife Helen of 69 yrs, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his children; David L. Cornish and his wife Alice of Southington, his son Robert P. Cornish and his wife Victoria of Plainville, grandchildren: Jason A. Cornish, of Portland, OR, Julie Ann Livingston and husband Bradley of Mechanicsburg, PA, Robert D. Cornish and wife Melissa of Bristol, Jamie Hall and husband Donald of Plainville, his five precious great grandchildren: Nya Livingston, Danielle Wills, Myles Cornish, Charlie Hall and Donovan Hall and his three nephews: Russell Schwab of St. Augustine, FL, Wayne Schwab of Palatka, FL and Gary Schwab of Raleigh/Durham, SC.
He was also predeceased by a brother, Norman R. Cornish and a sister, Barbara Daniels.
The Cornish family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at HOCC, N-3, for their wonderful care, kindness and support extended to them during his illness.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at 9:00am at New Britain Memorial – Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10am in Sacred Heart Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
