Dario S. Anastasio, 66, of Newington, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2022 after a valiant battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Dario was a devoted husband to the late Christine Wawrzynowski Anastasio, whom he adored since they first fell in love at 16 years old. Dario and Christine lovingly raised their sons, Daniel and David, in Newington and they were always very proud of them.
Dario was born in New Britain to Dante and Celestina Anastasio. The family lived in Italy twice and then settled in West Hartford. While living in Rome, Dario attended la Scuola Superiore di Roma. After moving to West Hartford, he attended Conard High School where he was on the track team, wrestling team, and in the marching band and orchestra.
Dario always had an empathic and kind heart going on to receive a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Connecticut and an M.S. in Counseling from Central Connecticut State University.
He had a deep voice that lent itself well to the microphone. He greatly enjoyed being a disc jockey while at UConn on his program, “Dario on the Rocks” and later at WRYM on L’Ora Italiana (Italian Hour) as well as doing voice overs for events, public service announcements and commercials.
He worked many years for the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) at an alternative vocational school that focused on the special educational needs of troubled teens. During that time, he also became a certified biofeedback and hypnosis practitioner. He later went on to pursue a second career in computer science, where he received multiple certifications. He worked in IT for General Electric. Unfortunately, his early diagnosis of MS cut his career short.
Dario was a devoted, kind, loving, and selfless person who had a wonderful and infectious sense of humor, loved traveling with his family and spending time with his relatives and friends in Italy. He loved to cook for his wife and sons; one of his favorites was spaghetti alla carbonara.
Dario is predeceased by his beloved wife, Christine.
Dario is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, his dear sons Daniel Anastasio, of Terre Haute, Indiana, and David Anastasio and his fiancée Emilee Laflamme of Mansfield Center; his caring sisters Elisa Nahas and her husband, Bill, of Vero Beach, Florida, Brunella Ibarrola and her husband, Jaime, of Newington, and Claudia Bowles and her husband, Motkue, of West Hartford; his loving nieces and nephews Carolina, Jonathan, Daniela, and Michelle; and his lifelong friends Julius and Paul.
His sons, sisters, sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, aunt, cousins, and friends, here and in Italy, will miss him dearly. Dario loved deeply, and all who knew him could sense his kindness and gentle spirit. Dario was a devoted, loving, and caring husband, father, and brother. He was a thoughtful and amazing person who was a joy to be around and made everyone feel at ease. He will be greatly missed by many.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dario’s life on February 11, 2023 at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain at 11:00am.
Dario will be laid to rest beside Christine at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain, CT.
