Carmela (Lombardo) D’Alfonso, 97, widow of Santi D’Alfonso, of New Britain, passed away on July 12, 2011 at New Britain General Hospital. She was born September 7, 1913 in Priolo, Italy and was the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Vincenza (DiMauro) Lombardo. Mrs. D’Alfonso was a parishioner of St. Ann Church, Holy Name Society, the Sacred Heart Club and St. Ann’s Ladies Guild and had been a seamstress many years ago. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by; three sons, Salvatore D’Alfonso of New Britain, Joseph D’Alfonso and his wife Priscilla of Palm Beach, Fl and Angelo D’Alfonso and his wife Linda of New Britain, her nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in the Lombardo, Iirri Families and Cocola Family in Priolo, Sicily, Italy. She was also predeceased by her son, Sebastiano. The D’Alfonso family would also like to extend a special thank you for the compassionate care given to Carmela by the VNA of Central CT, including her caregiver Irena Marczewski and CT Community Care.
Funeral services will begin Friday, July 15, 2011 at 9am at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 10:00am in St. Ann Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
