Bruce was born in Hartford CT on 7/23/1940 and passed away on 11/12/2024. Son of Fred and Greta (Johnson) Eberhardt who were both first generation Americans. He lived in West Hartford before moving to Palmer, Massachusetts when he was in sixth grade. He graduated from Palmer High School in 1958. The family spent summers camping at Hammonasset State Park, a place that members of the family had been enjoying since coming to the United States and continue to do so now. Growing up, Bruce developed a love for the drums; not only was he a member of his high school marching band but he and two friends formed a dance band called The Blue Notes. Years later he and two different friends created a band called The We 3. Bruce’s love for music and drumming followed him throughout his life. He could hardly believe he was “paid to have fun!!” The summer of his graduation was spent working and playing at Hammonasset where he saw Carolyn for the first time and it was love at first sight for Bruce! He had to put in some work to get her attention though as she was dating someone else. In his own words “He never worked so hard” By the end of the summer they were inseparable. After high school, he developed an interest in broadcasting and thought he would make a great radio personality so he enrolled in Northeast Broadcasting School in Boston while Carolyn finished her senior year of high school. He was encouraged to gain experience before entering the workforce, so he joined the army as recommended and spent time as a broadcast specialist in Korea (most notably) for Armed Forces Radio. After leaving the Army, he spent his early career in medical sales until the program he was working with was disbanded. He then pivoted to a sales job at Advo Systems selling advertising space because he needed a job. Looking for something more fulfilling, an opportunity came along to work for himself at a company called A.L.Williams. For the next 30 years he educated families around the kitchen table helping to change their financial futures. In addition to his career in sales, Bruce was the Golden Voice of New Britain High School’s Golden Hurricane Marching Band for 23 years, a position that he was extremely proud of and took great pleasure in, bringing his early broadcasting days full circle and a smile to a lot of faces. Bruce was a devout Catholic and a gifted lector, he was confirmed as an adult and was an active member of St. Andrew Church in New Britain. After marrying Carolyn on May 18, 1963 they settled in New Britain and started their family. They continued the family tradition of camping at Hammonasset State Park before ultimately purchasing their seasonal cottage in 2013. Bruce and Carolyn were very happily married for 61 years, their love story is unrivaled. He remained always a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He spent countless hours first at his children’s and then grandchildren’s school, work and sporting events and was always the loudest cheerleader! You could not find a prouder man.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, their four children Eric,Timmy, Kristen and Matthew. Eric’s partner Andrea and his children Tyler and Marissa, Timmy’s wife Lisa and their boys River and Sawyer, Kristen’s husband Tim and their boys Noah and Jameson. He was predeceased by his sister Nancy. Those who were close to Bruce were never unsure of his love for them, as it showed clearly in every interaction he had with them. Bruce touched countless lives and he will be remembered as a kind and loving man. He will be deeply missed. He was the joy of our home.
