Rose Marie Scheel Bueche, beloved wife, mother, and “Memaw”, passed away peacefully at home with family on Saturday, November 26th, 2011 after battling cancer for five years. Rosie was born on December 7th, 1930 to Erwin and Meta Kaderli Scheel. She was the oldest of four children, having three younger brothers, Lee Roy, Harvey, and Danny, and a fourth generation Comal County resident. Rosie graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1949 and spent her entire life in New Braunfels. Rosie married, the love of her life, Chester Bueche on August, 11th, 1950 and they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. In her early years, she worked as a legal secretary for then County Attorney, Hilmar Triesch, and also part time for the County Clerk. She served as Home Service secretary to the American Red Cross. In 1958 she received the “Best Christmas gift I ever got”, her only child, Christi Lynn, born on Christmas Eve. As a stay at home mom, she still remained involved in many activities. She served in the PTA for 12 years, helped with Girl Scouts, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and volunteered as a docent at the Sophienburg Museum. Rosie sang in the soprano section of the First Baptist Church Choir for 32 years, taught Sunday school for 28 years, and played her accordion in the Church Band. She also belonged to two Bridge Clubs for 22 years. In 1981, she opened China and Things, a beautiful gift shop of which she took great pride and ultimately sold the business several years later so that she could enjoy her two grandsons, Zach and Josh. The boys spent many days and nights at “Memaw’s House” playing games and eating her delicious homemade pickles and cookies.
Rosie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Chester Bueche of New Braunfels, her only child, Christi Bueche Morrow Haberer and husband John Haberer of Garden Ridge, and her two grandsons, Zach and Josh Morrow, also of Garden Ridge. She is survived by her three brothers, Lee Roy Scheel (Cathern) of Spring Branch, Harvey Scheel (Patty) of New Braunfels, and Danny Scheel (Dana) of New Braunfels as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, Nov.29th, from 5-8pm at Zoeller Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 10am, Nov. 30th at First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or to The Cancer Care Center of New Braunfels.
