September 4, 1939-June 27, 2017
Patrick Foley Broaddus went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 27 at the age of 77. He passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home. Patrick was born a traveler. While growing up he moved and lived in multiple places. This week he traveled on his last trip; the greatest journey anyone can take.
Patrick was born September 4, 1939 in Joplin, Missouri to Julian Foley and Anne Logan Broaddus. He attended school in Virginia, New Mexico, and Texas. Patrick started primary school in Virginia as a young boy. His family moved to Midland, Texas where he continued his education. Later Patrick moved to Grants, New Mexico to attend school, work on a ranch, and play football. His senior high school year, he moved back to Midland, Texas and graduated in 1957. He then joined the Army Reserve. Patrick attended college at Texas A&M University and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree of Business and Economics and later earned another degree in Education. Patrick went on to work for Muzak in Austin, Texas. As an entrepreneur, he then bought Muzak of Dallas, Texas, and later moved back to Austin, Texas to continue to work for Muzak.
“Pat”, as he was known by most, met his sweetheart, Norma Jean Maxwell, and married her on April 29, 1972. Over the next 43 years, they continued to build their love. They experienced Canada, Glacier National Park, Vancouver, and British Columbia. In 1978, God blessed Pat and Jean with a son, Michael Patrick Broaddus. Pat instilled his love for travel onto his family by driving and camping to and from Alaska, and by flying to Ireland and Costa Rica. Then after many years of working in Austin, Pat retired in New Braunfels, Texas with his family. Through the experiences of travel, he built a new passion for videography and photography. Pat became an expert at photographing his son’s football games. He held a great talent for action shots and was well known for them by his friends and family.
Pat was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (more fondly called “Pawpaw”), brother, son, and dear friend to many in our community. He will remain in the hearts of his wife Jean Broaddus, and son Michael Broaddus and wife Ranessa. He will never be forgotten by his grandsons Tate, Jake, and Holden Broaddus. Pat’s surviving siblings include Edie Weems and husband Mason, Vicki Shackleford, Kirk Broaddus, and Julie Hester. Pat was loved by all and will be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Anne Broaddus, as well as his twin sister Patricia “Tresie” Smethers. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 2:00pm at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels. Arrangements under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, TX.
