Lou Childress Bollman, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She was born to John Thomas Childress and Clara Maybell Hanks Childress on June 26, 1944 in Hollis, Oklahoma.
Lou married Jerry Neil Stewart in 1963 and were married for 16 years. He brought 2 sons, Bobby and Sherman into the family and they shared two daughters together, Jerri Lynn and Jamie Zen. In 1979 she married Ken Bollman and they spent 43 happy years together.
In her younger years she played high school basketball for Allison High School, where she graduated from, and joined a women’s basketball team after high school with her very special friend, Rosie Bentley. She also coached girls’ basketball team and was an avid fan of all kids’ sports.
During Lou’s life she was she was employed by the City of Amarillo for over nine years and the Texas Department of Transportation for 27 years, where she retired. Lou was a generous soul and enjoyed giving back to her community. She volunteered with Special Olympics for over 11 years and, after retirement, she volunteered with the Chistus Santa Rosa Trail Ride in Falls City, Texas for over 7 years.
Lou lived life to the fullest. She loved to travel to visit family and friends, going to ball games of family and friends, and she enjoyed gambling, sewing, antiquing, and gardening. She always said her greatest accomplishments were her two daughters and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. If you were her friend, you were a friend for life and she loved you just like family.
She is survived by her husband, Ken Bollman; daughters, Jamie Watts and husband Clay of New Braunfels, Jerri Leith and husband Flake of Hockley, Texas, stepson, Bobby Stewart and wife Debra of Los Colinas, Texas; grandchildren, Brent Leith, Emily Leith, Sara Stewart, Meredith Shanahan and husband Michael; great grandchildren, Niela, Hollister, and Liam; brother, Everett Childress and wife Darla of Tuttle Oklahoma; sisters, Fern Reed and husband Densel of Wheeler, Texas, Annetta Childress and Debby Addy of Mansfield, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas and Clara Maybell Hanks Childress; brother, Carl Drayton Childress; sister, Ruby Nell Smith; niece, Sherlyn Case; nephew, Wade Childress; and stepson, Sherman Stewart.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 Am Monday, February 7, 2022 at Zoeller Funeral Home with Chaplain Tamara Berger officiating.
