Katherine Pearl Beken went to be with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior on February 6, 2010. She spent her final days at home surrounded by her family and caregivers.Pearl, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on April 12, 1933 in Garfield Community near Yorktown, Texas to Alfred and Malinda Hoehne. After graduating from Yorktown High School, she worked for Central Power and Light Company and during this time, she married Charles Laas Beken, her devoted husband of 51 years. After moving to Premont, Texas, Pearl continued her professional career as a Clerical Administrator for Mobil Oil Company for 37 years. After their retirements, Pearl and Charles packed up their roots and moved to New Braunfels, Texas to be near their daughters and grandchildren. A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown, Pearl also attended First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels. Her special interests included genealogy research, gardening, sewing, crafts and planning family activities.Her family wrote: “Mom was the hub of our family, never wanting to be in the limelight. She made it possible for all of us to shine in our own ways. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.”In addition to her husband, Charles Beken, Pearl is survived by her two daughters, Tammy Guenther of New Braunfels and Laura Benavides of Buda, son-in-laws Paul Guenther and Dennis Benavides, and 4 grandchildren, Aspen and Cypress Guenther and Robin and Lukemajor Benavides, brothers and sister-in-laws, AC and Wysonda Hoehne of San Benito and Franklin and Shellia Hoehne of Pasadena.The Beken family would like to express their sincere thanks to Blanca Luna, Pearl’s caregiver and also to Hope Hospice for their merciful care and devotion.The family would like to request memorial contributions be directed to Hope Hospice, 611 North Walnut Avenue, New Braunfels, TX 78130.
