Joyce Elaine (Hayes) Pierson

August 2, 1930 – February 5, 2022

Joyce Elaine (Hayes) Pierson joined her husband Jack in heaven on February 5, 2022. She was born in Houston, TX to Harry and Myrtle (Booth) Hayes, the 3rd of 4 children. The family moved to Alvin, TX in the 1940’s where Joyce attended Alvin High School. She met the love of her life, Jack and they married in 1946. They welcomed their son Rick late that year. 15 years later, their daughter Jill was born. A long-time resident of Alvin, Joyce enjoyed playing bridge, needlework, cooking, entertaining and reading. Joyce was a member of the First United Methodist Church and made many lifelong friends. Her love of shopping, especially for antiques, led her to start her own antique business with her sister Betty in the 1970s. They first had a small booth at a trading mart in Houston, later to open their own shop “Fond Memories” in Houston, which they operated for several years. She and Jack relocated to Pearland, and then to League City, where they lived for 20 years. To be closer to their grandchildren, they moved to New Braunfels, TX in 2013.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Rick, grandson John, brother Harry and sister Betty. She is survived by her daughter Jill Bumgardner and husband Steve, grandchildren Brooke Bumgardner and Dane Bumgardner, sister Rosemary Reifel and husband Mike, sister-in-law Jane Goodwillie and husband Gene and beloved nieces and nephews and their children.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, 611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130. A celebration of life will be held in the spring in New Braunfels.
