James Edwin McGinley was born in Dallas, Texas on July 13, 1961. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was later selected for Officer Candidate School, where he was commissioned as an Intelligence Officer in 1987. He later retired honorably in 2005. In his post-military life, he continued to have a major impact in Marine Corps Intelligence, including providing briefings at The White House. He was a certified Anti-Terrorism Training Officer, and was also a Six Sigma Black Belt in Change Management. He was a graduate of the Counterterrorism Analysis Course at the Defense Intelligence Agency and was certified in Peace Support Operations by the United Nations. He also authored several research monographs and over a dozen journal articles on global trends and security. Dr. McGinley’s experience includes multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, a deployment to Bosnia, participation in an Embassy evacuation in Africa, and a deployment as a Red Cross volunteer in response to hurricanes in the United States.
He was also extremely passionate about psychology and helping others via counseling. To this end, he pursued and received his doctorate in Organizational Psychology from Northcentral University. Dr. McGinley became a licensed counselor and went on to teach counseling psychology for over 14 years as an adjunct professor in Purdue University’s Global Program. He is the author of seven books covering a diverse range of topics, including cross-cultural adjustment, coping, and stress management. On December 3rd, 2015, he married the love of his life, Mikay McGinley, who he loved and cherished every day.
He is survived by: his father – Lawrence Cather McGinley, Son – James Alan Lawrence McGinley, Son – Jon-Michael Loy McGinley, Daughter – Laura Catherine McGinley, and Granddaughters MaKaylee Rae Liskow, Camryn Nicole Liskow.
