Irene Fischer Brandenburg, a longtime resident of New Braunfels, TX passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the age of 94 in her home. She was born in Fredericksburg, TX on July 10, 1929 to Edwin and Meta (Treibs) Fischer.
Irene grew up in Grapetown, Texas, attending school until she was called upon to work on the family farm. Growing up with her sisters and brother, she loved to play baseball and frequently went to watch local games. It was at such a game that she met a boy named Howard “Brandy” Brandenburg, and on February 10, 1952, they were married at the Edison Street Methodist Church in Fredericksburg, TX. In 1958 they moved to New Braunfels TX, where Brandy worked for the TX National Guard 4/133 FA BN service battery. Irene enjoyed being home with their children and in 1971, she began working for the New Braunfels Independent School District in the Central Kitchen and Carl Schurz Elementary School. She soon began driving the food transportation truck, delivering lunches to all district schools. She retired in 1988 to spend time with Brandy after his retirement.
In their retirement years, Irene and Brandy enjoyed hunting at their property in Junction, TX, caring for their cattle, and spending time with their family. Their home was always happy and full of love, and nothing made their day like one of their children or grandchildren stopping by to visit.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Brandy, her parents, her sisters, Doris Cook, Florence Lux, and Ellen Crenwelge, her brothers, Rudy Fischer and Henry Fischer, and her granddaughter, Sara Brandenburg. She is survived by her children, Barry and Bobbie Brandenburg, and Gordon Brandenburg, her daughter, Sheila and Cliff Schuetz, 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
