Ernesto (Ernie) Solis Sr. passed away on January 7th 2018 at the age of 80 at his home in Live Oak, Texas. He was born on April 20th 1937 in Seguin, Texas to Antonio and Isabel Solis. He was raised by his paternal Grandmother Maunela Solis. He is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Antonio and Alfredo Solis and grandson Zachary Castillo.
Ernie married the love of his life, Christina Gallegos on July 17th 1958 in Seguin, Texas. They moved to New Braunfels in 1965 where they raised their 3 children, Ernesto Jr., Sylvia and Isabel.
Ernie loved life and was a very outgoing, friendly and with a great sense of humor. He loved dancing with his wife Christina and enjoyed fishing. Ernie was an outstanding baseball player and played organized baseball and softball well into his later years. Ernie was well known in New Braunfels for his involvement in the local youth baseball community. He was a coach and later became manager of several Little League teams winning the city Championship in 1972 and later won Babe Ruth League championships in 1974 and 1978. In 1970 he organized his own local semi-pro baseball team, the New Braunfels Aztecas. In later years he was a well-known umpire in the New Braunfels Little League Organization. Ernie was awarded the coveted Silver Unicorn Award in 1981 for his contribution to youth baseball in New Braunfels.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christina Gallegos Solis; son, Ernesto Solis Jr., wife Diana; daughters, Sylvia Solis Babbitt and companion Jerry Ayala; and Isabel Rivera, husband Joe; grandsons, Lee Babbitt III, Andrew Babbitt, Alexander Solis; granddaughters, Christi Garcia and Sabrina Castillo; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Public Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm, with the Rosary service at 7:00 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 11, 2017 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church. Reception will immediately follow.
