Ellienora Pfeffer Scherer of New Braunfels, Texas passed away peacefully on August 27, 2023, at the age of 101. She was born on November 7, 1921, in Bellville, Texas to Gussie Pfeffer and Olive Timmie Pfeffer. She was raised in Bellville, Texas, and as a teenager, moved to the Heights area of Houston, Texas.
In 1953, Ellienora married Clifford Dale Scherer, also of the Houston Heights. They were blessed to be married for 69 years. The couple had two children, Clifford Dale, Jr. and Mary Jane. Ellienora worked in Houston for Shell Oil Corporation before choosing to stay home with her children.
Ellie, as she liked to be called, was a woman of great faith. She was an active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Houston for almost 50 years before moving to New Braunfels and joining Cross Lutheran Church. At Memorial, she loved serving on the Chrismon committee and making intricate white, silver and gold Chrismon ornaments. She was also very active in and supportive of the Altar Guild at Memorial Lutheran.
She had an artistic and creative mind that led her to become an excellent seamstress, creating and sewing her own stylish designs. Another big part of her life revolved around gardening. Ellie created beautiful gardens throughout her large backyard with many specimen plants. She could name them all and tell a visitor where each plant came from and what its unique characteristics were. When not busy gardening, sewing, or caring for her husband and family, she loved visiting the library, and painting with watercolors.
Ellie was a loving and greatly loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Cliff Scherer, Jr. and wife, Carroll of Wimberley; her daughter, Mary Jane Gagnon and husband George of New Braunfels; grandchildren Elizabeth Wood (Thomas), Catherine Gagnon, George Gagnon, Jr. (Katelynn), Mary Grace Martinez (Geno), Joseph Gagnon (Ava), and Margaret Gagnon; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Her entire family will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Cross Lutheran Church of New Braunfels or Hope Hospice of New Braunfels.
