home he built with his Wife and three daughters there. David was born in Covina, California to
his loving mother Donna Sue Workman on October 17, 1958. He was raised in San Gabriel
Valley in California with his parents Dennis and Donna Root. When he was 17, David joined the
Navy and served his country for four years. During his time in service his parents moved to
Austin, TX. When he finished his term and followed his parents to Texas in the late 70’s.
It wasn't but a few years later he stumbled across Kingsland, TX where he fell in love with the
Texas Hill Country and his Wife Helen Lea Walker with her son John Barnett. They bought a lot
with a 200 sqft shack and built their own home in 1982. Over the next eight years they had three
daughters, Emma, Heather, and Kimberly. His family was his whole world. Anyone who knows
him knew that.
David had seven grandchildren with one more on the way. He loved them dearly and would
attend as many school and sport functions as he could. His favorite times were taking them to
the annual Lions Club pancake breakfast at the Kingsland community center and the Burnet, TX
Air Show every year.
He worked for the Satellite Station Fire & Security/Home Smart for almost 30 years. He started
off doing Dish network installations in the early 90’s and later became the security technician
when he received his Fire and Security License.
David was always willing to help others out in any way he could. He loved volunteering at Camp
Agape helping young boys, who had lost a loved one themselves, find Jesus. David had many
hobbies but his most fond were his days of camping with his family, the motorcycle days, and
getting to fly his flight simulator on his homemade cockpit. He was the “jack of all trades” and
spent some of his last years doing many various woodworking projects for his house and
making unique Christmas and other gifts for the family.
A Memorial Service will be held in honor of David at one of his favorite spots to watch the sunset
off Park Road 4 at 6:30 pm on April 30th. Another Memorial will be held at the Sam Houston
National Cemetery. Date to be announced at a later time.
