Charles S. Dreymala, 78, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 after a courageous fight with cancer. Charles never met a stranger, his charismatic personality and ability to make others laugh were characteristics of his life’s philosophy of “never had a bad day”. He loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening, or just visiting with friends on the back porch.
Charles was a devoted husband to his wife, Irene for 48 years and a loving father, and grandfather to their three children and ten grandchildren.
Charles was born in Edna, Texas to Fred and Cecelia Dreymala and later moved to Houston, Texas where he graduated from Milby High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the Coast Guard. From there, he graduated from the University of Texas in 1960. He began his career in finance at Tenneco Oil in Houston. From there, Charles moved to Corpus Christi, where he worked for the next 30 years as a banker, and Executive Vice President at Parkdale Bank. Upon retirement, moved to New Braunfels, where he was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Irene of New Braunfels, Texas; three daughters, Donna and her husband Mark Tackitt, of Lubbock, Texas and their children Matthew, Stephen, and Sarah. Terri and her husband, Philippe de Raet of Potomac, Maryland and their children, Nicholas, Christopher, Caroline and Emily. Sondra and her husband, David Saenz of Austin, Texas and their children Francesca, Duke and Sophia. He is also survived by his two brothers, Leonard Dreymala and his wife, Frankie of Port Lavaca, Texas; and Babe Dreymala and his wife Barbara of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Zoeller Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 19, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Pallbearers are: Nicholas de Raet, Matthew Tackitt, Duke Saenz, Larry Hubertus, Bill Langenbahn and Vince Sampiere.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Hope Hospice, or Knights of Columbus. Arrangements under the direction of Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, TX.
