Anthony Kent Colbert (Tony) of New Braunfels, Texas, 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017. Tony was born in Crystal City, Texas, on March 16, 1944 to L. C. and Maxine Williams Colbert, both of whom preceded him in death. While growing up, Tony helped with the family businesses, including a beekeeping business and the Colbert Bros. Grocery Store in Winter Haven, Texas. After graduating from Carrizo Springs High School he continued his education at Southwest Texas Jr. College in Uvalde, Texas, and then The University of Texas at Austin.
He then worked for the Texas State Highway Dept. as a computer programmer. In 1967 Tony joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Coronado Beach, California, aboard the U.S.S. Tappahannock. He married Dorella Neuse Colbert on August 10, 1968 and they resided in Coronado Beach, Calif. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Tony went back to work for the Texas State Highway Dept. He and Dorella became very active with Oak Hill First Baptist Church, Austin, Texas.
During this time the Lord called Tony into Christian service and they moved to Waco in 1974. Tony attended Baylor University, and after receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Religion he went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He worked for James Robison Evangelical Assoc. Later he worked for General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin as a Flight Manual Editor. It was during this time that the Lord made it possible for them to adopt Luke Aaron Colbert and later Ethan Conroy Colbert. Tony served as a Deacon at Wedgwood Baptist Church/Cityview Baptist Church, taught Sunday School, was an AWANA leader, and sang in the choir. While raising their sons in Ft. Worth, Tony enjoyed playing his guitar, writing songs, and sharing his talents mostly at church. He was active in the Dad’s organization at Bruce Shulkey Elementary School where they had a Shulkey “Sugar Daddies” organization working and cleaning up at different events to raise funds to buy school play-ground equipment, flat top desks and computers for the students. They also helped organize and assist in different festivals/relays at the school. He loved Classic cars and went to many Swap meets.
Tony’s parents moved from Carrizo Springs to Colorado Springs when they retired, so many Christmas holidays were spent in Colorado enjoying the snow.
Tony retired from Lockheed Martin and moved to New Braunfels. Tony loved the rivers in New Braunfels and especially enjoyed his daily walk to Hinman Island. He always had a story to share after his walks. Finding a “penny” made his day.
He loved his family and enjoyed his grandsons. He was pretty much of a home body and loved the birds and sounds of the Lord’s creations all around. He prayed daily in his quiet time with the Lord and enjoyed Andrew Wommack’s Bible teachings. He loved music; Western, Christian, and the Blues.
Tony is survived by his wife Dorella Neuse Colbert of 43 years; sons Luke Aaron Colbert(and Jenna) and Ethan Conroy Colbert; grandsons Damian, Xander, Ezra, and Jacob; sister Linda Colbert Morris & Col. Robert C. Morris, Jr. of Collinsville, IL., niece, nephews, and cousins.
