Andrew D. McCauley Jr.

Andrew D. McCauley Jr. passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born in Randado, Texas on February 26, 1928 to Andrew D. McCauley Sr. and Nofflet Holt McCauley. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 69 years, Arlene McCauley; brother, Harold Dean McCauley; sisters, Chris Houston and Bonnie Rosen; and grandson, Dennis Speicher. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Startz (Steven); daughter, Terri Garzillo (Tom); son, David McCauley; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Andrew had a fabulous sense of humor, was quick witted, and the class favorite. Andrew graduated from Freer High school where he was in band, football, track, basketball and tennis. There he met and married his high school sweetheart, Arlene. After graduation, he attended Texas A&I Kingsville and Texas State University. After college, he went to work for Mobil Oil Company moving up in position as he worked the south Texas oil fields. His career took them to Port Lavaca working offshore in the Intracoastal Canal, Tripoli, Libya, Victoria, Texas and Kingwood, Texas. As he completed his 40 year career as Production Supervisor for the Kilgore, Liberty, Dayton Division TX/NM.

Upon retirement, he and his wife built a home in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, enjoying the cool summers, forest birds and animals, and especially the bears.

After 18 years and some health issues, they came back to New Braunfels, Texas to be closer to medical care and family.

He and his wife made multiple trips to Europe, Mediterranean Islands, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Columbia and Aruba. They also enjoyed traveling in an RV group in the Northwest US. He led a full and wonderful life.

There will be private family graveside Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10 am at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home; with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice, Oakwood Baptist Church, or to the New Braunfels Humane Society.
