Alfred Herman Kramer went to be with his heavenly Father on June 11, 2010. He was born to Fritz and Lena Kramer on March 20, 1923 in Washington County. He was the seventh child of ten children in a farm family. He married Gladys Winkelmann on November 8, 1942. Two years later he entered the service of his country during World War II. He fought with the 175th Battalion in the infantry and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was MIA and a POW at Stalag 11-B in Fallingbostel, Germany. He was awarded many medals, including the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his courage and valor. Most of his life he worked as a Boilermaker Welder out of Local 74 in Houston, TX. He was a life- long member of the Lutheran Church. When he retired, he and his wife moved to New Braunfels.
He loved his wife, his family, his country and his God. Dove hunting, fishing, playing dominos and pitch, barbeques, gardening, dancing, yodeling, listening to the Astros, and family reunions were among his favorite activities.
He is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Gladys Kramer; his son Jerry Kramer and wife Sherry, his son Jimmy Kramer and wife Karen and his daughter, Betty Kramer. He is also survived by grandchildren: Shannon Bliek and husband Scott, Paxton Brown, Nicole Thrasher and husband Trent, Aaron Brown and wife Amber and Joshua Kramer and wife Kelly. Also surviving are his great grandchildren: Jaxson Brown, Benjamin Bliek, Tate Thrasher, Grant Thrasher, Samantha Bliek, Jenna Bliek and Sadie Kramer. He is also survived by sisters, Mildred Richter and Helen Gottwald; brother, Edgar Kramer and wife Clarice and sisters-in-law Gertie Kramer and Loraine Kramer and many nieces and nephews.
His family wants to thank the caregivers and hospice workers and McKenna Village who loving cared for the Kramer Family. A special thanks to the caregivers, John, Lonnie and Rosemary.
Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. Sunday at the Zoeller Funeral Home and continue until service time Monday. The family will be present to greet friends on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be Monday, June 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Zoeller Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Foundation may be made in memory of Alfred Kramer.
