He was born February 14, 1937 to Willis Roswell Stevens and Elma Hensley Stevens. He graduated from Lumberton High School in 1955. He attended High Point College from 1955 to 1959, Pfeiffer College from 1956 to 1957 and East Carolina University from 1963 to 1966 where he earned a BS degree in Business Administration. Willis served in the Navy from 1959 to 1963 as a musician. After retiring from the Navy he moved to New Bern to join his parents where his father was a minister at Centenary United Methodist Church. He worked at Cherry Point for 25 years and retired as head of Labor and Employee Relations in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn G. Stevens; daughters, Cindy Finley (Bill) and Nancy Cooper (Brent); brother, Frank Stevens (Joy) and sister, Betty Anne Jordan; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Christ Episcopal Church with burial in the church yard followed by a reception in the Parish House.
