Willie Ulrey Long

Willie "Willard" was a loving mother who passed away on May 9, 2023 at Bayview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in New Bern, NC. Willie was born in 1923 in Tampa, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her father, David G. Ulrey; her mother, Ollie B. Boyette; and her husband, William B. Long.

She is survived by her three daughters, Karen Key (Billy) of Mocksville, Jan Paysour (Conrad) of Greenville and Susan Long (June) of New Bern; 5 grandchildren, Sandie Horne of Salisbury, NC, Wendy Vernon (Wade) of Mocksville, NC, Ben Ward (Lorelei) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Melody Cutler (Billy) of Washington, NC, Sarah Jayne Edwards of Greenville, NC. She also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren.

Willie was employed by Williamston Peanut Company for 20 years. She volunteered as an AARP tax preparer at the Williamston Senior Center. She also served on the Board of the Council on Aging and received the Governor's award for community service.

Willie was known for her beauty and progressive beliefs. She cared about her fellow man and was strong in character, fighting the good fight until the end. She will be greatly missed by her children and all who loved her.
