William Kingsley Johnson, 91, died Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Pruitt Health Center. He was born September 30, 1931 in Staten Island, NY, son of the late Warren and Mary Mercereau Johnson.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was involved in his church, St. Mark's Episcopal Lappans Church in Boonsboro, MD. He was a literacy volunteer for Washington County, MD and a hospital volunteer at Meritus Health Center. He was also a master Mason in Lafayette Lodge in Cumberland, RI. He was also a member of the American Legion #0042 in Hagerstown, MD, and the Elks Lodge. He was an employee and retired from the United States Census Bureau.
He attended Bucknell University in PA and completed his education at Bryant College in RI with a degree in accounting and business administration. He was employed by Industrial National Bank in Providence, RI and then at Miriam Hospital as Comptroller in RI. He later transferred to Warren General Hospital in Warren, PA before settling in Hagerstown, MD.
He loved music and was a fantastic dancer, spending many weekends at Pen Mar Park. He also loved to run and competed in 5K races well into his 70's, as we can attest to by the Large amount of T-shirts he collected, as well as several trophies. He loved watching sports, especially college basketball. His favorite football team was the NY Giants and baseball team was the Boston Red Sox, which he remained a loyal fan no matter where he lived.
He is survived by two daughters, Kristen Henry (David) and Karen Calsi (Robert); grandchildren, Wesley Gan Kirk Johnson, Damien Calsi, Amelia Calsi, Alexandra Henry and Samuel Henry; daughter-in-law, Jo Yok Gan; sister-in-law, Phyllis Thorpe; nephew, Eric Cronce; niece, Diane Quinn.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Beverly Jean Johnson; son, Kirk William Johnson; and sister, Elizabeth Cronce.
He will be inurned at St. Marks Church Cemetery in Boonsboro, MD at the family's convenience.
