William V. Careway

He was preceded in death by both parents, James W. Careway, Jr. and Evelyn L. Careway; younger sister, Dollie C. Reed; both sets of grandparents and many other relatives.

He attended Durham County Schools in Durham, NC and later joined the US Navy where he met his wife of 39 years, Cathy. Upon finishing his tour in the Navy, he had many jobs before settling on a career in law enforcement with Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Oriental Police. After years of service as a law enforcement officer, he moved his family to Oklahoma, where he retired from a petroleum company.

William is survived by his wife Cathy; their six children, Tonya (Jeremy), Zachery, Taimi (Paul), Amanda, Charlie, and Nicholas; three grandchildren; a brother, James W. Careway, III (Lynda); and sister, Gwen Parish (Steve), all of which will hold his memory close.

Cotten Funeral Home of New Bern will be holding a visitation for William Careway on Sunday, May 7 from 1-2pm and funeral service will be at Greenleaf Memorial Park at 2:30pm.
