Vera M. Baumgardner of Charles Town, WV and New Bern, NC died on Friday, February 4, 2022, in New Bern, NC. She was born September 3, 1928, in Bridgeton, NC, the daughter of the late William Jesse Alcoke, Sr. and Vera B. Fulcher Alcoke.
She was a graduate of Bridgeton High School. In 1948 she graduated from Winchester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Winchester, VA. as a Registered Nurse.
Vera retired from Neutron Products, Inc. of Dickerson, MD in 1994.
She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Charles Town, where she was a Sunday School teacher for eighteen years.
She was a member of the former Wayside Garden Club, the American Red Cross Nursing Services, the Jefferson County Cotillion Club, the Harpers Ferry Historical Association, the Jefferson County Historical Society and the Scarborough Society of Shepherd University.
Vera is survived by a daughter, Deborah K. Piscitelli of Harpers Ferry, WV and a son, Donald R. Baumgardner, Jr. and his wife, Pamela of New Bern, NC. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Noah Mehrkam and his wife, Hilary; Anthony Piscitelli and his wife, Jessica Madgitz, all of Washington, DC; Marina Piscitelli-Doshkov and her husband, Paul of Kill Devil Hills, NC; Adam Baumgardner and his wife, Bonnie, and Derek Baumgardner and his wife Ashley, all of New Bern.
She has 11 great-grandchildren: Lyla and Anderson Mehrkam; Julian, Owen and Sloane Piscitelli; Kiko Doshkov; Hudson, Anna, and Schep Baumgardner; and Olivia and Emberly Baumgardner.
She is survived by one brother, Joe Alcoke, of New Bern; nephews John Heitman, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC and Philip Heitman; five nieces, Margaret DeCamp, Joy Evans, Lane Vann, and Meredith Jo Wilson, all of New Bern, and Kimberly Alcoke of Morehead City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Baumgardner, Sr. in 2016; one sister, Bertha Heitman; one niece, Nancy Edwards both of Winston-Salem, NC., and one brother, William Jesse Alcoke, Jr. of New Bern.
Services will be conducted at the Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC on Wednesday, February 9 with Pastor Scott Coghill of New Life Church officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 10:30 am with the service beginning at 11:30 am. Following the service, interment will be in Greenleaf Memorial Park, 900 River Road, New Bern.
Pallbearers will be Adam Baumgardner, Derek Baumgardner, Hudson Baumgardner, Noah Mehrkam, Anthony Piscitelli, and Paul Doshkov.
The family thanks Charles Town friends and neighbors Tim Ridgeway and Sheila Clifford, Charlie Pepper, Brandon French, and Brian Bellman for their caring and kindness to Vera and Donald, recently and through the years.
