Steve grew up on the banks of the Neuse River in James City. He graduated from New Bern High School in 1969, where he played football, wrestled, and graduated with honors. Steve later went on to study Accounting at UNC Chapel Hill.
Steve lived a quiet life after college, preferring the company of his family. His passions in life were reading, working out, watching college basketball and photography.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents John G. Mason, Marie D. Mason, brother George G. Mason and sister Joyce M. Moore. He is survived by his sister Betty M. Snow and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A small gathering to honor Steve’s life will take place on August 5, 2023 at Betty M. Snow’s residence.
